So Eric and Sookie finally became a couple. Sure it may not last but they will always have Casablanca… er I mean, Bon Temps.
As expected, fans of the Bill/Sookie pairing came out with claws sharpened in response. We Eric/Sookie shippers only had to wait 3 + years for our favorite story line to make its way to the screen and of course there are determined party poopers. I heard all sorts of ridiculous banter in regards to Sookie and Eric making love. They claimed Eric and Sookie were wooden and that they had no chemistry. They proclaimed that the screen shots of sad Bill were an indication that Sookie was only trying to hurt Bill and that she didn’t really have feelings for Eric.
It was all nauseating and childish really but the few remarks that made me angry were the ones that targeted Sookie and her character. Yes, we all get that Sookie dumped your precious Bill but get a grip people… she had good reason to!! I read comments that Sookie deserved to be “put in her place” by Bill when she confronted him about arresting Eric. I read that she betrayed Bill in the worst possible way by getting involved with Eric.. worse than anything Bill did to her. Huh?!?! But the most disturbing thing I read many times was that Sookie is naught but a slut. WTF?!?!
What Bill fans are not remembering is that Sookie is a very attractive twenty-something woman who has now slept with a whopping TWO men. Both of these men she felt she was in love with at the time. That makes her a slut? Really???
Bill Compton has had sex with three other women besides Sookie since the show started. Eric has had many lovers as well. Are they sluts? Well, no. But Sookie dares to have sex with someone other than the noble rat bastard, Bill and she becomes a slut. It boggles the mind, the logic of these Bill fans.
I suppose they feel Sookie is not really in love with Eric and so THAT makes her slutty. But even that does not compute. Sookie was attracted to Eric from the moment she first saw him and Bill caught her staring. You could tell from her body language that there was attraction there but she never gave the idea room to play because she was with Bill. She was a LOYAL girlfriend.
In the second season she was tricked into a blood bond by Eric and I am sure the sexy dream side effects increased her interest but still she remained loyal to Bill. The blood bond and Eric’s actions in the FOTS church (offering to trade his life for hers) and with Godric on the hotel roof helped Sookie to see a new side of Eric that she really liked. She remained loyal to Bill. She also found out that Bill lied to her and created a new vampire. When she messed up and let that vampire return home Bill scolded her like a child and screamed at her to shut up when she tried to explain but she remained loyal to Bill.
Tell me to shut up and I will tell you where to go!
In season three Eric helped her find her cheating boyfriend, saved her from werewolves, and hired her a bodyguard. He also formulated a plan that hurt her (biting) but that ultimately saved her life… and Bill’s. By now she was pissed and thinking about dumping Bill but when he came crawling back to her it looked very much like she would once again remain loyal to him.
It was only after she found out (from a third party) that their relationship was planned (she was an assignment from the Queen) and that in many ways it was also manufactured (allowing her to be beaten so she would be forced to drink his blood) that she decided to dump Bill Compton. By that time he had cheated on her, treated her badly, almost killed her, lied to her face dozens of times, tried to make her doubt the intentions of her other protector Eric simply because he was the competition, tried to kill Eric, and refused to fess up to his own crimes. What had Sookie done? She remained loyal to Bill, defended him to her friends who warned her about him, and swallowed every lie he told her. When all that blew up in her face she dumped him.
In season four, after Bill has moved on with at least two new women (that we know of) Sookie finds herself in an irresistible situation. She is single and Eric has had a total personality change after losing his memory. A man she was attracted to from the beginning has suddenly become even more appealing and available. Plus, he needs her help. That fact must be huge considering that she was just used and abused for the past 3 seasons. She is in the driver’s seat in this relationship and that has to feel good to have her power back. Her new man is also dedicated to her in a way that Bill never was… he loves her enough to want to see her happy.. with whatever man can make her dreams come true. THAT is real love. Of course she allows herself to love him back and express that love physically. Now that she and Eric have taken their relationship to the next level she is also seeing the past more clearly. She sees that Eric saved her life on several other occasions and that even under all that arrogant vampire bullshit, he loved her even then.
I don’t know what vampire Bill fans are smoking but it is some bad shit. It makes you delusional folks. Sookie is no slut. And the man she dumped DESERVED it. What kind of women root for the guy who cheated on her, belittled her, and lied to her every step of the way anyway? Maybe I am clueless because I certainly don’t understand it.

AMEN. They are delusional and getting desperate cause Sookie is clearly moving on with our Viking beefcake and it’s clearly love too. If they can’t find ways to show that Sookie still loves/wants to be with Bill and all the signs they see that they’ll be getting back together, then they have to belittle Sookie and her new relationship and bring her down. I mean WTF?

also one more thing .. Eric never feed on her, yet! Bill just can’t stop feeding from her, is it love or is it the blood?
He did fed, on the 2 last episodes of the third season: one to kill Russell and other when Sookie gave him her blood for him to heal. That’s why he felt her when she came back, but now he doesn’t remembers that.
yeah, what I was trying to say was that Eric did not feed on her like it was some blood lust – he did it under circumstances that requires it. And, their love making did not involve blood, as I can recall Bill somehow have to bite when they make love.
In S1 there was an episode that showed Sam findig out that she takes supplements. So, it kinda gives me the impression that Bill somehow regularly feeds on her and have strong lust for her blood
I just wanted to say that I loved your post. When I discovered True Blood, 3 or 4 years ago, I had no team. Then I read the Viking lovers thread and the Bill lovers thread on a forum. I was so sick how evil they (Bill lovers) were towards Sookie (back then Book Sookie, cause she had been with Eric and then Quinn in the books), calling her a slut back then. I think the crazies are still the same, they’ve always hoped this season wasnt going to play like this and now that it did, they are saying to True Blood’s Sookie what they’ve always said about book Sookie.

I’m pretty sure in real life anu girl wouldn’t expect Sookie to stay with Bill after all he put her through.

I read one comment from a BL that said, “the show isn’t about vampires anymore but a sluty twit.” HUH? And then she goes on to say that Sookie has done a lot worse to Bill then he’s ever done to her. Really? I just can’t get my mind around that. He almost drained her for goodness sakes! Great post. I avoid reading the BL posts and comments because I find them so laughable and it’s hard for me not to mock them. I call their response to Eric/Sookie at the start of the season, I knew they would be all Sookie’s a slut.

I just wanted to say that part of the reason I love these books, is that I found Sookie just fascinating. She was much like myself. I am 30 now been with my husband for 5 years and have only been with him. I had plenty of opportunites, and told myself to wait for love, no matter what, or if I just plain had the hots for someone that could be something more…lol. So, just from her loving Bill and ERIC, I totally think she is within her right. MY GOD it’s sooooo stupid to call her a slut. That just sounds like a bunch of idiots who really don’t know how to separate fantasy from reality and just can’t get over the fact that ERic is just as much a part of her life as BILL is. ANd, just like any brand, you pick your choice, coke or pepsi, it’s different strokes for different folk. I AM AN ERIC LOVER AND PROUD of it.

I find both Steven and Alex have brought to life the parts of EN an WC fairly well. I had wished the show would have allowed these characters to be played out on film as well as they were written but that is a debate for another time. In the show the time line makes it appear that SS has jumped from one bed to another in a matter of days. If you go by the books it is book 4 and much more time has elapsed between relationships and we have not even mention the desire for Alcide and Quinn.
A slut, she is not a poor actress AP is. As for her sexual interactions with EN, well, I blame them on poor scripts and poor directing in conjunction with her poor acting. I find myself fast forwarding through over 50% of the show ever since season 2. I find the directing is awful and I know, go ahead and hate me but,I have never been an AP fan for the SS role. I find her to be an awful actress with no depth or ability to act but one dimensionally.
Although I am a die hard book fan I did find the sex scenes in season to be very hot, full of passion and desire and this was mostly pulled off by the obvious chemistry between to SM & AP.
As for when Eric and Sookie get together if you recall in the book it was like the Daytona 500, it should have been with great lust, passion and a need they had to fulfill both emotionally and sexually for each other. Yes, memory loss EN is a kinder, loving man but again the directors made him into a pussy. The writers and directors ruined the entire SS & EN parts from book 4 for me on film. They are not a good match the way they are played, in my opinion the EN and SS sex scenes were cold, flat and unexciting to watch. A young girl may find it exciting to play mommy and want to mother her sex partner but a woman wants a man and even though he is a kinder, gentler vampire they could have allowed him to still be a man. I did not find any of their interactions enjoyable at all.

I have to say, I remembered when I was still reading the first book, I heard small tidbits from other fans alluding to the fact that Sookie would not be with Bill throughout the series. I was upset! (still in love with Bill as Sookie was) I feared that I was getting into a series in which the main character switched guys as fast as she changed her clothes… Again, I was just afraid that was the case. I kept reading the books and understood how things had changed between the characters. Sookie is NOT a slut. She is a woman who has been hurt and deserves to give a new man in her life a chance!

Yes I know Eric isn’t perfect but he, in my opinion, has risked his life on many occasions to try and save Sookie’s life and I’m coming up blank with that in regards to Bill…oh wait there was that episode in Season 1 when Bill first said “Sookeh is mine” to those other vampires that were in his nest or whatever and then the Rattrays but then again he formulated that whole thing for his own gain. So yep other than those times I really can’t think of any other time when he saved her.

true blood writers have some EpicFailz moments , but in most parts , regard to Eric and Sookie, i find it sublimely sweet and their acts , mostly Eric , really gave depths to their relationship.
consistent with book Sookie , you can also see how she remains loyal to both Bill and Quinn even when the ever persistent Eric kept flirting and smoldering her. And vice versa when she is with Eric. Bill kept telling her he love her every chance they are together but Sookie pay no heed to.
Sometimes I wonder if I’m watching the same show and reading the same book as some out there.
i somehow hope that Anna Paquin will improve her acting though for future season.. she did not gave her best when doing lovely-darling-Sookie-in-love-with-Eric-face. i guess people are judging Eric and Sookie based on Anna’s chemistry towards Askars as compared to her on screen with her own husband.

I actually use to like Bill. I’ve always liked Eric too, but understood both Sookie attraction to him and her distaste for him. I was once a regular reader on a Bill site, under the impression ,by them, that they were nothing like Team Eric. The Eric Rabid’s, as they called them, did nothing but spew hate against Bill and Stephen Moyer. They would go on and on about how above that they were. Bullshit! Now all they do is hate Sookie, call her a tramp and a slut , as well as the most stupid person on earth. Of course Bill can do no wrong. Every excuse in the book is used for anything Bill does , he is so perfect, Stephen is the best actor on earth, Alex and Anna are not and they have no chemistry, blah, blah, blah. Again bullshit!
It is so bad it actually has made me dislike Bill and Stephen by extension of their hatred. On their episode threads, they don’t even discuss the episode, only what a slut Sookie is, how awful the sex scenes are and how wonderful Bill is! And that bill actually needs sex, it’s in his nature . It’s actually disgusting. I can say that I have always felt somewhat neutral between Eric and bill but I am definitely now team Eric, and always team Sookie. I know a hot sex scene when I see one and them falling through that door was it!!! Their hottness is off the charts to me.

My only complaint was that the love scene was so short, took so long into the ep to get to and was treated like a side story while I was forced to suffer through endless scenes of Marnie and the bigots chant and Tara whining (I wanted to smack that insipid smile off her face). I have no problems with AP’s acting, I feel she is barely given a chance to act on the show anymore what with Sookie getting 6 mins out of 56 each week. Slut to me means a person (man or woman) who has no self worth and who sleeps around because they feel it makes them important/special. That isn’t Sookie, Eric or Bill.
Let’s not forget Eric bought her house because in his heart he always knew that she was alive. (Plus who wouldn’t want to have him for a landlord) Bill had given up hope and moved on to sleeping with his granddaughter. Than Bill came into her house without even knocking, even if it is owned by a vampire a human lives there show some respect. Plus we all know the only reason Bill was willing to kill Eric is because he wanted Sookie back, and even facing death Eric still wanted her to be happy. So no she’s not a slut, she’s very smart in choosing her mates. Let’s just hope they stick to the books, and allow Eric and Sookie to get married. Cause that will really be a thorn in Bill’s butt, and I can’t wait. Too bad they can’t have a baby, if Eric is so protective of her, can you imagine him driving the nightly carpool.

Bill needs her blood. Eric needs her love. I know as a woman which one I would prefer. Bill didn’t love her until after he tasted her, Eric loved her before he ever tasted her blood, he wouldn’t admit it (before he lost his memory) but he did (he had dreams about her, not just about sex but about her knowing him).
