In the last episode Eric was taken hostage by Martonia the witch and Sookie was shot in the battle between witches and vamps. This week we got some spoilers that hinted that Bill’s fangirls would be very happy… aka that Sookie would not only dream about him but admit to still loving him. As a die hard Eric fan it was tough to see all this glee and stay positive but I actually REALLY enjoyed this episode. Heck I even liked Bill in this eppy too… and that is hard for me to admit because I am so used to douchery from him. Its a-okay with me if Bill fans are happy because I am too.
Anyway… Alcide runs with Sookie‘s limp body to her house and Bill takes over, trying to get some blood into her mouth and system so she can heal. At first it looks as though this will not work but she does wake up after a short time. Her first thought was about Eric. She immediately asked where he was, wanting to know why he was not there. Bill tells her that Eric is missing and that he plans to look for him shortly. Sookie tells him they cannot waste even a moment trying to find him. Alcide is honked off that Sookie still wants to be involved with the vamps, who in his mind almost got her killed again. He proclaims he is DONE and leaves.
The next Eric/Sookie scene was VERY rewarding. Yes it was the infamous threesome scene we have been hearing about but it was sooo much more than that. Sookie wakes up from a nap in her dream to answer the door. It is Eric Northman standing on her porch in broad daylight. Does it symbolize a fresh, new love or a source of light in her life? We all know Sookie loves her sunshine. In dreams sunlight is thought to symbolize the dawning of a new light, insight, or a spiritual discovery. But I didn’t even care so much about that as I did what Eric is wearing. He was wearing his black leather and tight pants again. At first glance it looks like BAMF viking Eric is back and later on we see from his demeanor and mannerisms (“Sookie is mine!”) that it is not amnesia Eric. This is HUGE!
Why? It confirms that Sookie does in fact love the real Eric… not some fake version of himself brought on by the amnesia. As I stated in another post about this (where I also explain that amnesia Eric is not a fake Eric BTW)… Sookie was intrigued by Eric from the start and slowly built deeper feelings for him over seasons two and three. She could not explain her feelings for Eric, especially since he was seemingly darker and more dangerous than Bill. Why would good girl Sookie Stackhouse desire this arrogant, aloof, dangerous, thug? And of course Bill himself was an obstacle. How could she have feelings for Eric if she was in love with Bill? The amnesia arc gave her a way to reconcile her feelings, throw caution to the wind, and go for it. The amnesia made it “safe” for her to love Eric.
But does she only love Eric with amnesia and not the real thing? No! In this dream we clearly see who her subconscious wants… the real Eric. I loved this scene. The foggy overtones, the old time music, and of course the return of BAMF Eric. Oh how I missed him so. The scene where he enters the house and kisses her was electric… made me melt into a pile of goo on the floor. And wow what and outfit he was wearing! It was old Eric leather with a touch of the amnesia Eric sleeveless hoodie, LOL. Perhaps that touch was Sookie‘ subconscious telling her she didn’t want to lose amnesia Eric altogether but mesh the two in a nice new package. Or perhaps she recognized that they already are.
Bill was also in this dream but I liked how he was almost an afterthought. The man of her dreams who came calling at her door.. that was Eric. Bill just kind of appeared as they were about to get busy on the dining room table. He literally popped in and reminded her that hey, you love me too. Eric looks hurt by the fact that Sookie has conjured Bill as well as himself in this dream and he and Bill start to fight but Sookie kiboshes that and tells them they need to get their vampire butts in the living room to discuss this situation.
Eric: Sookie is MINE!
Bill: Bullshit! She is mine!
Eric: I am ten times your age.
Bill: And I love her twenty times as much.
In the living room the two vamps sit on the couch and Sookie proposes that she since she loves both of them they should both be her lovers. King Bill protests and says he doesn’t share. Deadpan Eric simply states that she must choose. Sookie knows hypocrisy when she sees it and tells them they are fooling no one with the idea of vampire morality AND just to make it crystal clear what she wants… she highlights the double standard of girl, girl, guy threeseomes and how they are accepted with little issue. Sookie on the other hand wants her two men and she wants to eat them to… or wants them to eat her… oh you know what I mean. :0)
To drive home her point he disrobes and shows off her sexy red lingerie and tells them they can take the deal as she presented it or leave it. Of course they both take her up on her offer and stretch out their hands to her from opposite sides of the couch. She joins them and they kiss her in turn (Eric first of course). Then the two vamps bite into opposite sides of her neck, in unison. Kinda hot I thought!
Once the dream was over Sookie makes an unlikely alliance with Debbie Pelt and they go after Eric. Debbie keeps Antonia occupied and Sookie goes in the back door of the emporium and finds Eric in the bathroom. He tells her to leave and Sookie realizes he is under a spell. When asked he informs her his mission is to kill Bill. All hell breaks loose and Sookie has to make a run for it but she and Debbie hightail it over to a nearby hotel with information gleaned from Tara’s mind. Antonia and Eric follow and she uses him to get control of more vampires and then they attack the rally attendees at Antonia’s behest. The episode ends with Sookie screaming for Bill to run.
All in all, another good episode. Even though Sookie and Eric were physically far removed, he was in her thoughts and dreams. She also came to some realizations about the two vamps in her life. She loves Eric for who he is and wants him to continue to be a part of her life. She also still loves Bill and that makes sense since it has only been a very short time (for her) since they broke up. It is natural that those feelings are still there. She is trying to internally work out a way to have both of the men she loves and that should make for a very entertaining season five, especially if Eric ends up having no memory of their time together (like in the books). Will Sookie fight for what she wants or decide to take the easy way out and let things revert back to the way they were? We shall see. At any rate I predict that at season end Eric will give Sookie her house back, in appreciation of the debt he owes her. I also predict he won’t remember their time together and that will make for some delicious tension next season. But first we have to see what other delights this season will bring. It has been a very good year for Eric fans.

I LOVED that that was basically BM Eric! Loved it loved it LOVED IT! Though I did throw up a little in my mouth with the whole, I can have both of you thing…..just a little.
yeah i know.. when is she gonna forget that weak old bag? can’t believe she still claims to “love” him :S they should stick to the books.. let sookie forget bill and just love him in a friendly way.. this seems like an alan ball move :S sucks!
I want her with Eric as a lover-heart’s-desire-soul mate , with Bill as a caring neighbor and friend , with Alcide like a brother , with Sam like a protective friend and with Quinn like a rebound guy.
I don’t exactly hate the dream scene this time … but Charlaine Harris’s has way more class in her plot handling. Had to admit I gagged when Bill appeared. And although I don’t think of it , I can actually understand when people say Sookie is a slut in True Blood. Meh..I’ll just go back and read the books for awhile.. until next week.
Finally! That hideous jeans jacket is OFF!
I gagged too.. and seriously.. I’m kinda nervous.. don’t think I can trust alan ball at all.. hope he doesn’t go back to his beel boner.. ugh!! :S
Please, stop with the “Sookie is a slut” comments. She was a virgin until she was 26. She has had sex with a grand total of TWO men.
i thought the dream sequence was very insightful and meaningful. i think sookie said it best herself when she said, “i could be dreaming about anything; dolphins swimming, or eating a whole pie without facing the consequences. But instead, I’m dreaming about the both of you. That’s gotta mean something.”
lol
it’s clear to see that eric has ALL of her attentions; it’s visible throughout the whole season and it was evident in her dream. Who does she first? Eric. Who practically sweeps her off her feet and romantically embraces her? Eric. Even when cockblock bill shows up, sookie seems blase about his presence and states that he was there basically because he gave her his blood. she looks at eric quite admiringly and seductively. bill? nope.
who does she kiss first when she approaches both vamps? eric. whose hand does she reach for first? eric. it was all about eric in her dream, imo. of course, she has to face her feelings for bill because she has never really reconciled them. although i hated him being in her dream, i found it to be rather realistic. i LOVED seeing the viking swagger of the sherrif in this sequence too. i just love how he oozes confidence and sexiness. sookie is a damn fool to not give him all of her. of course, i was kinda expecting alan ball to give us a variation of book sookie saying, ‘i am my own.’ since he just can’t give Eric and sookie fans what they want by both characters saying they are each other’s, ya know? he had no problem with bill and sookie saying that in season 1. garsh!
all in all, i cant wait to see the final 3 eps! good thing i start school back up today..it’ll make my week go by quicker!
I don’t think Erik is going to let Sookie forget even though he will not remember it all because he will feel their bond grew stronger!! Hmmmm!!!
I love BAMF Eric!!
Thank you for the great recap. I must say I did not think much of Sookie’s dream until I read your post, because I am kind of disappointed with how AB builds the storyline, robbing Eric’s character of very important things, like the shower scene, the killing of Long Shadow, etc.
I agree with you 100% – in the dream, this is Sookie’s subconscious speaking, loud and clear. I only hope that the makers of TB had the same idea in mind and not just a cheap version of V high from two vamps’ blood. It is very promising that she dreamed of the real Eric. She confesses that seeing him in Dallas with Godrik and him offering his life in exchange for hers and his maker’s made her see him in a different light. Indeed, that was just the beginning.
As far as Bill’s participation in the dream – I would be surprised she would not think of him, still. For her, it was just a few days ago that he broke her heart. I don’t expect her to get over Bill’s betrayal so quickly, even though she is falling in love with the Viking.
Eric walking into the house and locking Sookie in a passionate kiss was sexier than the lake scene, and I will choose these few seconds over the palm-sucking bonding scene any time. I missed the confident and strong Eric. Perhaps, I am biased, but… come on, just look at him!
I am an Alpha fan of Eric, I confess. But at some point I had to give up on killing myself over inconsistencies in TB and unfair treatment of my favorite character on the show. I have come to accept that TB is no more than a fanfiction, and therefore AB has every right to develop it any way he sees fit. As a writer of fanfic myself, I grant him that, but as a viewer of his work I have a right to disagree how he interprets certain serious issues. The show is full of blood, violence, and death – comes with the territory. But when it touches upon something like rape, I expect the makers not to turn Jason’s suffering into a parody. The man was abused, brutally, by the way. It was not funny, and his reaction in dealing with the consequences are yet to be seen. Maybe.
Thank you again, and looking forward to reading more!
Best,
AlphaEN
well yeah, it is a fanfiction.. and he can change details if he wants to.. but messing with the core relationship seems just dumb.. And not even that, the worse thing is that after beel’s actions and obvious douche-attitude the writers still want to shove him into our throats! (or at least seems like they will -again- after Eric regains his memory) .. It’s clear viewers or most viewers find beel’s character annoying and unlikable. AB has the responsibility to please his audience as well.. so even if this is HIS fanfic, doesn’t mean it’s ok (because of this responsibility) specially because he’s the one with the TV show.. he gets to recreate these novels, loved by millions before the show started.. he knew (or should know) fan expectations should be considered.. apart from that, I think he has done a pretty good job.
oh and I too want to see what happens with jason.. and jessica!
Hoyt annoys the hell out of me right now..
AlphaEN—good to see you on here…..have missed your updates at ericnorthman.net!!! Hope to see you soon
I agree–I didn’t think much of the threesome at first but now I have a new perspective after reading these thoughts….I hope it does bode well for Eric and Sookie. I couldn’t stand to see Sookie go back with Bill–it just wouldn’t be Sookie! She has way to many trust issues to be with a man who manipulated and lied to her….just my thoughts!
