Who Will Sookie Choose? Eric or Bill?

Looks like goodbye, no?

Some TV Guide spoilers are making the rounds and one of them hints that Sookie will decide if she wants to be with Bill Compton or Eric Northman. Fans have responded with mixed emotions. I have read comments from both fan bases saying that depending on who Sookie chooses… there will be no True Blood season five for them. Others think it is too early to choose either one and that AB is screwing the story over. Others still are refusing to get worked up about it at all.

One item that has made some fans angry is that Bill is referred to in the article as “upstanding”. Select media outlets are either having their hands held while they write this BS or they are clueless about the very shows they are writing about. Since when exactly did Bill become upstanding? Was that before or after he manipulated Sookie into falling in love with him, allowed her to be beaten nearly to death, lied to her for 3 seasons, and then tried to kill her other love interest, twice? I agree with Eric fans who are angry over this ridiculous campaign to make Bill look like such an honorable guy.

Some fans are scratching their heads about Sookie choosing one over the other at all. Have we really come to that point yet? I think not. Bill betrayed Sookie in the worst way and she only found out about it a week or so ago at this point. She also quickly dived into a relationship with Eric, knowing full well that it may blow up in her face after the memory curse is broken. She loves both of these vamps but it will not be smooth sailing with either one of them so how can she be ready to figure out which one is “the one” for her at this point? If she chooses Bill, she completely disregards what he has done to her and these were Titanic sized transgressions we are talking about. Getting back with Bill so soon after her affair with Eric and telling him she loved him would also be the height of disrespect for a vamp/man who has done nothing to deserve such horrific treatment. It would be like spitting in his face and in the face of Eric and Sookie fans IMO. Sookie and Eric DESERVE to have their potential as a couple explored further.

Choosing Eric over Bill also seems unlikely. The curse will be lifted and that will have ramifications. If Eric remembers their time together it is hard to believe they will just hop back into bed and pretend the curse was only a glitch in the road. They will have issues to work out for sure. And if Eric doesn’t remember the greatest love affair he has ever known how can Sookie disregard that? The connection and bond they formed will be erased for one of the parties and that is no small hiccup.

When season four ends it seems the only right thing for Sookie to do is choose neither of them and that is what I predict. I fully admit that Alan Ball is crazy enough to sway this thing Bill’s way but I have to believe he is not stupid. It makes no sense logically and it is disrespectful to a LARGE portion of his fan base. I have to believe he knows this.

I also want to see Eric and Sookie separated for while so that they can experience all that delicious tension between them as they try to forge a new relationship. If Sookie is back with Bill it just wouldn’t be the same.. she could just diregard all her feelings as irrelevant because Bill is her man now.

I can just see Sookie trying to hide her feelings for this man who was her lover and trying to hide from him the fact that they were everything to each other for a short while. I can also see Eric’s confusion. He will feel that his bond with her has increased exponentially (via the blood) but she explains it away as nothing. He will sense feelings from her like yearning and desire and yet that feeling won’t jibe with what is coming out of her mouth. It will drive him batty to not be able to remember what happened between them. Reminds me of one of my favorite scenes in book 4 when Sookie reaches out and almost strokes Eric affectionately after he regains his memory and then she has to hurry and reign it in before he notices. The tension could be so very delicious if done properly and that is what I want to see. It can really only happen if Sookie chooses to walk alone for awhile and I hope that is what she chooses to do.

Of course some fans are making the rounds to different True Blood fans sites and Facebook pages claiming they have seen the last episode and that Sookie chooses Eric. Also heard that Eric rejects her. It is enough to make you pull out your hair I tell ya and that is partly because that could make a lot of sense too. If the man regains his memory and is suddenly thrown into a serious relationship when he hadn’t quite thought out his pursuit past Sookie’s panties hitting the floor, perhaps he would bolt… at first.

No matter what happens though I will tune in for the 5th season. If Eric Northman is on my TV screen, I will be there to watch, with bells on.

@Tiffany…you are better than me then. I love my Viking and I love Alexander but… I don’t think I’ll be able to watch the Bill and Sookie hour anymore. It will brake my heart remembering how wonderful and good they were together. Why doing a blood bond then? To make us believed that they are really going to be one. I’m tired of been full by AB and Co. I hope I’m wrong.

  2. I’m with viggolover (great name by the way). If they throw those 2 back together I will be gone until they break up.

  3. viggolover1 says:

@Michelle…thanks..yes..Aragon was my first love. Now Eric. I like my men to be Kings, warriors and strong…LOL!

  4. I want it to go with the books. I want her with Eric. I think he should get his memory back but they should seperate them for awhile so they can work their way back to each other

  5. I have really enjoyed this season’s take on the Eric/Sookie romance. I am reading the books and just finished book seven. I don’t think Alan Ball should give Sookie the ability to choose Eric or Bill. There wouldn’t be a great deal wrong with them being on good terms but I’d like to see new characters introduced as love interests; however since there isn’t a love interest in book five other than a brief emotional attachment to Sam, there would need to be someone for Sookie to be with whether Bill, Eric or someone new. I’m not found of Bill in the show or in the books. He doesn’t stand out in either of them. Eric is the stronger character in my view. Odds of Eric being the one is pretty slim is my guess. With that likely the case, I’d like to see that he has some recall of their relationship where there will be an attachment that will keep them tied to one another through next season.

    • April… I would love to see him have little flashbacks next season of his time with Sookie. That would be especially fun if she has lied to him and told him nothing happened.

      • Tiffany, that would be great. Just a hint of what took place enough to keep Eric wondering. I liked seeing the different side of Eric this season. He showed that under that rough exterior that he is romantic, funny and loyal for Sookie.

  6. Honestly I agree with Tiffany that Sookie will choose neither, cause remember in the books she does the same, she ends up with neither, and remember Quinn, who I think they are going to merge into Alcide. Cause Joe was saying his schedule is jammed packed for next season, I see something happening with those two, BUT Eric will somehow always be there for her, they need that tension to keep the show going, please, oh please DO NOT LET HER CHOOSE BILL!!!! Let it go till the finale of the show that she finally chooses.

  7. WandersFar says:

I think you’re forgetting one thing: Eric is already in love with her.

I’m not talking about mind-wiped Eric. I’m talking REAL Eric. The Eric who waited for her for an entire year. Who bought her house because he was convinced she was still alive, when everyone who claimed to love her, her brother, her friends, even Bill Compton, gave up on her. The Eric who could drink her blood anytime he wanted, but chose to fix up her house because he cares about her and wants to make her his.

This is the Eric I’ve been dying to see all season. If he catches wind he and Sookie actually hooked up during his vacation from sanity? He will be all over that shit in a heartbeat. He loves her. He’s not just trying to get into her pants anymore. That was well-established in the first two episodes of this season, and I actually prefer those scenes to just about everything else that has happened so far Eric/Sookie-wise as that’s 100% real. That is him. That is genuine.

    • Love your point!!!

    • hell to the yea! i totally agree with you!

    • viggolover1 says:

And I agree with you 110%…I don’t understand how people (well some people) see this…Eric does love Sookie..Like you said he bought her house and repair it for her. He was waiting for her…what Bill was doing? Playing Queen and putting his fangs in everything that was breathing. I know that Bill loves Sookie…but I don’t know for some reason…he is the type of man that talks a lot and tells you 100 times that he loves you but his actions don’t show it. Eric always is doing things for Sookie and he doesn’t care if she recognize this or not. He does it because he loves her and seen her happy is enough for him.

      • WandersFar says:

Yeah, totally. Bill talks a good game, but when it comes down to it, he spent the gap year politicking and banging his entire female staff plus whatever women he sent his procurer out for. Not exactly grieving there, much as he protests otherwise.

Eric, meanwhile, built a shrine to Sookie. He refused to accept the possibility that she could be dead, and instead spent his time building their future life together. He fixes up her house the way *she* would want it; he doesn’t redo it in his own image. He’s thoughtful and returns it to the way Gran had it, only nicer. And he buys her practical things, like new appliances (and a flatscreen, that’s not too practical, but still :p). I thought that was a nice reference to the driveway he fixes up for her in the books, and the new coat he sends her. Eric’s always thinking about how he can make Sookie’s life more comfortable. He doesn’t shower her with lingerie and jewelry like she’s a cheap ‘ho, which is what Bill does (Book Bill at least. And Show Bill, too, actually, with the lavender dress.)

It’s really frustrating that Show Sookie can’t seem to appreciate this at all. She’s so blinded by her hate-on for Eric that she doesn’t see all the good things he does for her. (Book Sookie is far more perceptive.) It took her until this season to realize that Eric was willing to sacrifice himself for her in the FOTS church, and I’m still not sure she realizes Eric was willing to die for her again when he met the sun handcuffed to Russell Edgington. In fact, she tells him point-blank that he “fangraped” her, completely missing the point, as usual.

I am so frustrated with Show Sookie. Sometimes I think Eric would be better off without her, as she really doesn’t appreciate what she has.

      • Excellent points!

    • Not forgetting that he cares for her, I just think it is highly plausible he would not be fond of being thrown into a serious relationship quite that fast. Even in the books he spent several of them 5-8 working through his feelings for her. I think AE had the capacity to fall in love much faster than his alter ego. Eric has 1000 years of baggage and vampire politics that might be obstacles and he may have some memory gaps. If he was confused and unsure I would not blame him in the least.

      • WandersFar says:

I agree that Book Eric was bewildered by Sookie’s confession. It took him a while to process, and he pulled back emotionally because he wasn’t sure how he felt about the whole thing.

Show Eric is a totally different creature, however. I believe he’s already deeply in love with her, and has been since the Nazi Were scene in S3. He tells Sookie he’s helping her out because he *significant pause* “owes” her. He was totally going to drop the three little words until he caught himself in time. And then Sookie flashes the ring in his face and he deflects with innuendo and teasing.

At the S3 finale, after that extremely hot kiss and the reluctant way he feeds from her and then tells her to go away while he’s burning… I think it’s pretty obvious he loves her. Maybe he hasn’t fully accepted that yet, but it’s there. Over the gap year, with Sookie gone for so long, he made up his mind to outright pursue her, and buying her house so she can’t kick him out again was the first step in that process. I do think he’s ready to commit to her, and has been for some time. He said it himself in ep 2 of this season. “I am asking you to be mine.”

This is a more mature Eric, in some ways, than Book Eric. He’s not playing games with her, as book Eric does by pursuing her and then pulling back and then getting jealous when she seeks company elsewhere. I think Show Eric is smarter than that. He wants her, and as long as she doesn’t push him away or run back to Bill… I could see them reuniting in a much more meaningful way than the puppy love we’ve seen this season.

      • viggolover1 says:

@WandersFAr..I agree with you about the differences between book Eric and True Blood Eric. Plus, time is another factor on rushing Eric falling in love with Sookie and resolving his conflict feelings for her. In a book people don’t age. True Blood in the other hand won’t last 11 or 13 seasons. Even if becomes the biggest hit on the history of HBO, people age and how you’ll justified vampires aging? SM already look a lot older than the first two seasons. He is over 40 and aging will show faster than someone in their 20′s or 30′s. Heck!!! he even looks older than last year.

      • WandersFar says:

        @Viggo

I agree that Moyer was looking rough S2/S3, but this season he looks a lot better. I think it’s the hair.

Likewise, ASkars actually looks *younger* this season. Again, I think it’s the hair.

I think there’s some life yet in these men. Stephen will go before Alex, obviously, but I think he’s still got a couple seasons in him before his age really starts to tell. And as for the ladies, Kristin is 40+ but definitely doesn’t look it, and Deborah is still a peach. The actress who plays NanFlan does look a bit older to play a vamp, though.

  8. I like the “she doesnt choose anyone” spiel. The tension would be interesting to watch. But her being friends with Bill is ok. Im a Eric lover to the grave!

  9. The TB people like to mislead — bet the photo of Bill/Sookie is just a “we’ll be friends” hug. And if she does choose Eric, bet he’ll take charge of the clothes shopping — for both of them :) !

    • WandersFar says:

Eric’s clothes this season *have* been a travesty. Sookie does *not* know how to shop for a 6’3″ Viking, clearly. :p

But Sookie’s clothes? Kind of hot. Remember that green hoodie thing she wore that night when Bill came to visit looking for Eric, and Eric was angling for a kiss? She looked very sexy there.

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE that yellow sundress with the bows in the back (for easy access, lol). The one she wears to visit Moon Goddess Emporium, and the one she wears during their first kiss, that he almost rips off of her. That dress was beautiful. I would totally buy and wear that, if it was available, but unfortunately it was a custom outfit made just for the show. :(

  10. Upset me even think in the possibility of sookie chosen bill over Eric . It’s don’t make any sense and it’s very early for S to decide something like that. I bet she will choose to be on her on for while, these will be more interesting, one just need to think in all the possible scenes with E/S and all the tension , and funny momentes. I look for that. I also think Eric will be in denial after recovers his memories. Old Eric will consider the all thing a weakness and feel embarrassed about the fact of have show to someone the gentil and human side him works so hard for over 1.000 years to hide. That will be difficult hard to Sookie undrstand, since shes emocianally high mantenance . But I can forgive Eric, if him work his feelings out and give us something really awsome in the next seasons .

    • ITA! Eric does really care about Sookie but I don’t think he would have fallen quite so fast and furious as his alter ego did. It’s be like going to bed with your crush and waking up married! Eric will not likely be ready for that and the amount of attachment to Sookie that AE displayed would be perceived by Eric as weak.

  11. Can somebody explain to me the meaning of bill’s pinky ring??

  12. yes, regardless of her choice, as long as Alexander Skarsgard is still in the show, my ass ain’t goin anywhere on sunday nights. he’s my grape juice…i’ve come for the grape juice! :) lol (no pun intended lol!) :)

  13. It’s gonna be heart-breaker for sure when Eric does goes back to the “old” Eric and not remember his time with Sookie. I’m really excited to see how they will play that on the show.

Re Sookie choosing between Bill and Eric? I don’t think that’s even a choice. Bill to me is old news, even if Sookie drank his blood, it’s not strong enough a connection to choose him over Eric. I think the bigger question is will Sookie still wants Eric (or fight for him) even if Eric gets his memory back?

  14. Over on another message board I read that someone had seen the last episode and that Sookie chooses Bill but then regrets it when she learns that he killed Gran, not Rene. Who knows how true that is but if Sookie chooses Bill I think many people will be disappointed as we no longer want to watch the Bill/Sookie show. I also think that Eric would walk away from her at that point. However, I don’t think she will choose Eric either. It would be quite funny to see her choose Eric and have Eric reject her. I do agree with Tiffany that the insta-relationship would freak him out. He does love her but he is going to not be happy that what happened was pretty much out of his control. Sookie needs to be on her own for a bit and learn how to deal with a real man, not just a puppet (which is what Eric is now sadly and Bill has been for the first 3 seasons). I hope they don’t introduce Quinn (how many more characters can this show stand?). I would like to see the tension between Eric and Sookie. Seeing them together this season made me realize that the tension is what I like between them – not this cheesy romance. I want to see Sookie with BAMF Eric – and she wants the same per her dream – very telling. Hopefully that will be a major storyline next season – Sookie realizing that she wants Eric as is and that the amnesia was merely a safety net for her. I also don’t think she will end up with anyone at the end of the series – she is a human and human/vampire relationships don’t work. However, if she does end up with Eric it would be cool if we flash forward to the end of Sookie’s like and she dies and Eric goes out to meet the sun.

    • WandersFar says:

Very well put, and I’m of the same mind as you.

Sookie doesn’t know what she wants at this point. This Eric is safe. He’s uncomplicated. He’s nothing like the real man, whom she is attracted to, but won’t admit to herself. She hides behind his supposed misdeeds and says he’s wronged her, though he hasn’t, and it’s just a dodge because she doesn’t want to confront her true feelings towards him.

I also much prefer the tension over the consummation. Books 5-8 were my faves, and I much preferred S3 to what’s going on now. If the series can recapture the palpable sexual tension of last season in next season, I will be very pleased.

    • viggolover1 says:

@JoJo…where did you read this? I want to know.

      • I read the same thing online and think it sounds bogus. Renee admitted to killing Gran to Sookie; mentally if I’m not mistaken and what reason would there have been for Bill to kill her when all along he was after Sookie for the Queen. I had heard that for the last episode someone would be returning. The only one I could think of would have been Russell. Then as I too read, it would be Gran; it got me thinking it could be Hayley or Russell. Someone had mentioned the possiblity of the Queen and I read where the actress said they hadn’t given her the final good-bye on the character; yet having the remains in Bill’s house made me wonder how would that be possible when she was shot in his home. The queen had a big part in book seven and as Bill doesn’t make a good King; I wonder if there is any way of taking this from him. I much preferred Queen Sophie Anne. Both she and Russell were ruthless but at times resourceful. Bill doesn’t fit the requirements of King. Whatever takes place with the blast from the past; I hope it plays into the story well enough.

      • I read it on a thread on the IMDB board. Who knows how true it is though.

  15. I know there is truth in that the show likely won’t last as long as there are books for it. Being that some partial plots have been taken from the last four. The Sopranos lasted a good long time and sadly the way that show was ended was utterly displeasing. I do hope True Blood has a long healthy run and has the ability to cover alot of plots. I do want to see the Eric/Sookie relationship explored more, down the road. I saw in a press conference where Alan Ball said he wants to have to get to the point where there needs to be explanation to why the vampires are aging. Being in just the fourth season, it is still a newer show. Long live True Blood.

  16. That could be true , I guess bill kill granny and after glamour Rene to confess in his place . If Sookie decide to go back to bill, I don’t think it will last longer . Probably its what she needs to get over it . like you have this great relationship, you break up and wish you could go back, because the only thing you remember was the good bits. But when you finally get back together you realise this isn’t what you want, and you get disappointing because the good bits was only in your mind. Disenlusional.

  17. IMHO, Sookie is not entirely human she have some darkness(fairy) in her and that is why she is attracted to the part of Eric that it’s been hardened trhougout the years!! Then there is the safe Sookie who was raised by her grandmother and has all the boundaries of a southern good little girl, that wants a happily ever after with a good man! That IMHO is the real battle here inside our heroine’s soul but she can’t deny her fairy heritage!! I think 8th fairy and BAMF Vampire will be a happily ever after in any league!! Bad boys can be tamed, at least to some degree!!

    • Right now, she should not decide whom she will stay because in TB, bill’s shut is still too fresh. And if Eric recuperate his memories, I’m sure he will loose Sookie’s… So IMHO even if she decides she will end up alone this season and that will make it two in a row!! Maybe AB will throw Alcide for some comfort who knows!! I think Alcide is going to be a mayor distraction next season anyway!! And for all that is worth, I love my Viking God Eternally and even if she doesn’t end up with him on the show or in the books, for me they will! Like bill clearly states on page 192 of DAADN “He is as vital as you are, and you share a zest for life.”

  18. I personally think Sookie will be retarded if she returns to Bill after all he’s done (& it watered down a bit compared to books) She never revisits Bill romantically again, because she deals with her undefined relationship with Eric in where she is bonded too.

Eric refusing Sookie (possible spoiler) I think it’s understandable b/c he can remember a thing & Eric comes out of this extremely emotionally confused. He can’t commit to a relationship he has no memory of & we can’t forget this BA Eric has issue with loving any human much less being in love. Eric is stubborn to admit human emotions & love is one big one he has felt in thousands of years. The only think he recall confessing to Sookie was he cares for her & wants to protect her & she refused him. I think this normal reaction to Eric who’s head & heart is clouded. I think will set up next season’s storyline with Eric reminiscing his past & his true desire to love & be loved in return.

Sookie I believe needs time alone to figure out what she really feels for Bill & Eric. Books do have her choosing neither, but the again she was never in love with both men. Her emotions for them have to be settled even before & if Quinn arrives, if he arrives.

I’m all for tension b/t E/S just as long as essence of what they stand for as in the book remains alive. So far as of Book 11 Sookie & Eric have never loved this profoundly in there entire lives. They are really turely in love but the ride is long & hard.

  19. Personally I agree. Big book fan here.

Bill is very old news. Sookie’s betrayal feeling towards him hasn’t been even explored on TB as in the books. I don’t want her back with him after his manipulations, lying & we can’t forget he tried to murder Eric twice b/c of competition. Come on Sookie, really? In the books Bill is does worst to her. They have to have a healing phase for Sookie before she can trust him again to develop the friendship they have in Book 11. Bill has to feel the guilt & remorse to face the fact Eric & Sookie do love each other.

As for Eric his confusion in his change/turn of his own emotions toward Sookie is going to be routed in some reluctance & denial. It’s been thousands of years he’s felt love for someone human or even given love by a human. This is difficult for Eric to face especially when he has no memory of it. So his refusal is understandable b/c he’s blinded by the past. It’s not Eric’s fault. Sookie can be hurt but she can’t be angry at him. It’s circumstances of the curse. As in the book she lets him go. It hurts but we know Eric in time (1yr or 5 books later) he returns to her.

Sookie’s needs alone time before Quinn arrives. She needs to concentrate & clear her mind & heart. She needs time alone to gasp what has happen to her emotionally from Bill to Eric. She doesn’t feel the same “love” for both. But then again she doesn’t realize this until she’s tries a warm blooded lover who she doesn’t even know she loves in the 1st place but sleeps with him b/c of her lustful desires & she can’t have what she yearns for Eric.

Eric & Sookie are “soulmates” but it’s a long hard difficult ride for both

  20. If she chooses Bill… I’m sorry, I’m outta here. Eric and Sookie is THE central relationship in the books. Clearly that’s what the fans want. If Alan Ball respects us so little by sticking her back with the man who betrayed her so deeply only a week ago (cuz that’s how long its been to Sookie since she found out about Bill’s MANY and total betrayals), then I really have no interest in his show.

  21. I think Sookie need to pick herself. if you notice she always going from guy to guy. I am Team Eric all the way. She just be alone to figure out if she truly love Eric and her feeling for Bill. I also want & hoping for a certain guy to take her away from Eric (Quinn) next season. I believe Sookie need to be alone and deal with herself.

  22. I am really pissed at Ball today. Eric has his momories back…all of it…tells Sookie he loves her….and what does she do? I still love Bill??? Really?????

  23. Makes me SO angry that Ball is completely disregarding the books when it comes to the Eric/Sookie relationship. Really? She still loves Bill too? (flipping frantically through Book 4) When did THAT happen?!

  24. At first I was pissed at Sookie too for telling Eric she still loved Bill after he told her HE LOVED HER!!!!! BUT I think AB in his own way is staying true to Book Sookie’s ambivalence re: relationships and particularly her relationship with Eric….I hope she doesn’t choose BILL–with her trsut issues and him lying to her in a BIG WAY…I think the Bill ship has sailed.

Even in the books—CH just released Book 11 (DR) and we still aren’t sure if Sookie and Eric will be together…..

I hope they will survive both in CH’s world and AB’s!!

    • I could play along if I knew for sure they will end up together and no bill!! But it’s AB!?? I don’t know what to think!! I’m so obsessed!!! :(

  25. Did anyone see the quick preview before the show? Sookie is wearing this outfit she has on the photo above and she’s crying outside of what looks like Bill’s house. So maybe they are saying goodbye to each other, and my heart sank when she told Eric she still loved Bill, you could see how crushed Eric was.

    • I hate tv sookie for breaking our Viking’s heart!!! AB is so clueless!!! How can she love bill after all he is done to her so recently???? Wtf??? She deserves to loose them all and all her fairy powers as well and marry Al Bundy and live unhappily ever after… :( I’m so mad I could spit!!!!!

  26. I love Eric and Sookie together, this show and their relationship make my life a little better. I’m going to read the books now. .
