And When I Die – True Blood Season Four Finale Recap

It’s hard to start a recap of this episode because overall I didn’t not enjoy it much. It had that same slooooow and boring feeling that the finale from season two did. All the drama was over in like 20 minutes and then it was just blah. And I was really pissed that Jesus died. I did not even like him until this season and then they had to kill him to increase the body count. Grrr. I also don’t give a rat’s behind about Jessica/Jason/Hoyt and wished that story would go away.

Of course the real reason to tune in was to see how Eric and Sookie were resolved. I am happy that my 2nd theory about Sookie choosing Eric and him dying did not come to pass. I was slightly disappointed that it was my first guess that materialized… aka that Sookie would pull a Kelly Taylor and choose herself. The former would have been shocking at least. But I digress…

The episode began with Sookie seeing an image of Gran’s body on the kitchen floor. She has coffee with Tara and explains that she feels Gran is there with her somehow. This is setting the scene for what occurs later. It was really very obvious from that point that we would see Adele Stackhouse later on AND that Tara would die. The comment about hoping she would be sitting next to Sookie on the porch watching grandbabies with Sookie was just too ominous.

Sookie goes to Merlotte’s and gets her job back and she starts her shift immediately. Alcide stops by and he makes a case for why they should be together. Neither of them can trust their hearts to lead them to a worthwhile companion so they need to use their brains instead. Sookie is resistant but as Alcide leaves to take care of some problem she looks at him with what I would describe as curiosity. I predict Sookie will be thinking about his offer more in season five and at this point I would not be surprised if Alan Ball has them hookup to. I am not opposed to this really.. as long as it is just a bump in the road on her way back to Eric.

Anyway Sookie is interrupted at work by Tara who informs her and Holly that Marnie is back, in Laffy’s body and that Jesus is dead. Sookie tries to get a hold of Eric and Bill and can’t find either so they drive to Bill’s mansion and find the missing vamps silvered to a stake, surrounded by wood for a fire. Their banter before Sookie arrived was hilarious. It was priceless when Eric made a dry remark about Bill being a bad King and Bill responded by telling Eric he liked him better when he was brain damaged. LOL. Both forget about their little squabble when Sookie arrives.

Marnie lights the pyre and the two vamps start burning. Holly makes a circle with salt and then she, Sookie, and Tara join hands and start chanting. The spell they cast brings back spirits who watch over them. Antonia appears and blows out the fire burning the two vamps. Adele also appears and literally drags Marnie out of Laffayette’s body. Antonia convinces Marnie that she needs to move on rather than be trapped in their current plane forever. So they go… just like that.

Sookie speaks briefly with Adele and she tells Sookie that being alone isn’t that hard. This of course obviously leads Sookie to the decision she makes later. When back at the mansion the two vamps dress in matching bath robes (LOL) and each drinks from Sookie’s arm to heal their wounds. This scene kind of gave me the creeps. It begins with Sookie opening her eyes and lovingly looking at Eric feeding on her. He asks her if it hurts and she shakes her head no. Then the camera pans to Bill and the look on his face was a creeptastic attempt at looking sexy. I do NOT understand why anyone would find Bill attractive. Ugh!

It only gets worse from there though. Bill stands up and declares that he wants Sookie to be happy and that it is okay if she wants to be with Eric. Eric jumps on this looks like his amnesiac self complete with goofy smile. He reminds her that Bill had his chance and that he lied to her. Sookie turns away from Eric and tells Bill she FORGIVES everything he did to her because she knows he loved her. WTF?! Eric is looking on at this with such a hurt expression on his face but then it turns painfully hopeful as Sookie turns back to him. She tells him that it is not his amnesiac self that she loves but all of him and that part of her has wanted him since they first met. He tells her she will not be sorry – for choosing him – but Sookie tells him she already is. Then she drops the bomb that she chooses neither of them. I was okay with this decision and expected it even but the way they made Bill stand their all noble and shit and Eric was practically groveling was just too much for me. Sookie even brought up Eric’s “untrustworthiness” in practically the same breath that she forgave Queen Beel. Really? When in the same room with Eric Northman and Bill Compton you call ERIC untrustworthy???? I want to slap the writers around. Sookie leaves in tears and I don’t feel very bad for her, at all.

BAMF Eric was back later that evening though when Nan arrived at Bill’s home. She tells the pair that the AVL/Authority wants the two of them dead and that she knows she will be next. She suggests they rally together and mutiny. She also drops a hint that Eric knows all about a secret group that has this exact agenda… which kind of stuns Bill. Fodder for next season?

In her attempt to rally them to her side she brings up Sookie and tells them she knows Sookie is a fairy and she knows that she means more to them than anything else. They follow her around like puppy dogs for cripes sake! As soon as these words leave her mouth Eric gives a sideways glance at the guards Nan brought (who heard every word she just said) and my first thought was “Uh-oh.. they’re dead”. Sure enough a few seconds later Eric decapitates all the guards in one quick swoop and Bill uses the distraction to stake Nan. Bill looks maniacal covered in blood and Eric looks HOT, especially when he coolly looks at the pile of goo on the floor and says “What a bitch.”

Thrown into the middle of the episode was a scene with Pam crying over her split with Eric and bemoaning how much she hates Sookie. This pisses book fans off because Pam and Sookie were/are good friends in the books. I hate that the writers are destroying one of the best relationships on the show… Eric and Pam. Of course the fact that Eric did not summon her to his side when he was burning is an indication he is not willing to let any harm come to her, even as pissed as he is at her right now. Hopefully next season this will quickly be resolved.

The episode ends with Debbie attacking Sookie. Tara jumps in front of Debbie’s gun and gets shot in the head. Sookie is able to pin Debbie down and get the gun from her. She puts it to Debbie’s chin and shoots. Whoa! Sookie runs to Tara and screams for help. The show goes dark.

So where does that leave us for True Blood Season Five? Well, Alcide has been set up as a potential love interest if Sookie decides to think with her “brain” and not her heart. We didn’t get to see how the ownership of Sookie’s house is resolved AND we didn’t get to see Eric help her clean up after the mess with Debbie (like in he books). I hope the writer’s don’t have Bill come to her aid! Steve Newlin is back in the picture, as a vampire, and appears to be targeting Sookie’s brother Jason. He didn’t much like Sookie either, calling her an evil whore of Satan. Will he still feel the same way or have his feelings changed now that he is undead? Alcide had to leave Sookie at Merlotte’s to take care of a workplace problem and that problem was that someone glamoured his workers and dug up Russell. I thought we might at least get a glimpse into who did it but I guess not. It really doesn’t make much sense because the only ones who knew were Bill, Eric, Pam, and Alcide. Bill and Eric would never release Russell because he knows what Sookie is. Alcide is an unlikely culprit and if Pam did it, that would be one heck of a betrayal and supremely stupid as well. I hope they are not going there. Really the only things that make sense are that Eric told his “secret friends” and they dug him up to further their mutiny against the AVL/Authority OR that Pam released him. Either could be likely since we have hints that season five will explore Pam and Eric’s back story and relationship and Eric’s friends in high places have been brought up twice now in season four. That has to mean this will come into play next season. At the very least I am comforted that Eric’s character is getting a nice set up for season five.

I watched this episode without appreciation for it and yelled at my TV numerous times. Just about the only Eric scene I liked was when he and Bill teamed up to kill Nan and company. Any episode where Eric’s heart get broken or where his faults are somehow compared to all the BS that  Bill Compton pulled is an epic fail to me. In the Inside the Episode video below, one of the writers talks about how principled Bill is and how selfish Eric is. It is getting mighty old and tired how they keep trying to make Bill the hero and Eric the scoundrel. How long will I keep watching while they butcher my fave fictional couple? Probably as long as Eric graces my TV screen.

So with that lackluster finale we go into a long True Blood hiatus. Any guesses on what season five will bring?

  1. Adele...not as in Gran says:

HOW Sookie could openly forgive Beel and then again whip out another mean snarky remark about Eric is just plain annoying. The diologue written towards Eric is annoying and it only makes us support him more and think that he needs distance from Sookie so she can sort her sill Kelly Taylor head out. LOL Remember, Kelly ended up having a kid to Dylan in the end, so all looks good on the horizon Eric/Sookie wise if we are going by 90210 standards. ANd if you want Buffy standards, remember, Spike ended up being the hero, getting himself a soul and saving the world. TEAM ERIC/DYLAN/SPIKE…whatever. hahaha

I did enjoy the final, mostly because of Eric’s lines and Alex’s performance and RUSSELL COMNG BACK!!!

  2. Adele...not as in Gran says:

Oh and I will not be surprised if the writers yet again give Eric’s plots to Bill, as in the disposing of Debbie’s body and possibly a red coat at some point. *cries* I want Eric to get his freaking scenes!

    • Jennifer says:

If THAT happens, the show will have lost me forever. Yes, I am serious. I’m hoping that Bill will be left cleaning up Nan off his office floor and Eric will be over to help, but knowing Alan Ball, I am doubtful.

      • Adele...not as in Gran says:

It will be another force of Bill on the audience and im just sick of it, im fine with him off doing his Kingly duties, but I would rather Sookie alone than him hovering about.
Ill continue to watch for Eric, Pam and Russell.

      • Crispycry says:

        Same for me !

    • Adele...not as in Gran says:

Lastly, I HATED hearing the writers again say that Eric is selfish…ugh, brainwashed by Alan Ball are we? Eric isnt a typical bad guy, both Bill and Eric and dodgy, but I know which one id trust more than the other. Bill is a sloppy blood drinker too, he looks like he is going to sneeze whenever he stops drinking from Sookie…blah!

  3. annette says:

I actually met and talked with Alex Skarsgard this past weekend cause he was in town to promote a movie. I waited two hours to have him sign the Rolling Stone cover of him naked and I got a great pic of him and I. I will watch this show until he is not on it anymore! The rest of the story lines in this show is poop. But that is my opinion.

  4. Jennifer says:

Yeah, I can’t say that I was a fan of the way this turned out. I’ve said on other comments here that if Sookie forgives Bill for all the stuff he did to her while supposedly being “in love with her” then I would lose all respect for Sookie. And I have. Eric has his own stuff to answer for but he was always upfront about who and what he was. Sookie choosing neither of them is fine for now. She’s not with Eric in book 5, so we couldn’t really expect the bliss to last. But Season 4 took place within the span of a week or two, right? So she came back from fairyland a week ago in her mind- so, to her, its only been a week since she learned all about Bill’s nasty betrayals.

    Really Sookie?

At this point, I can’t say if I’m on board for Season 5. This show is rapidly losing my interest. If A.S. isn’t on screen, I don’t care much (although I do love Jessica and Jason, I confess). I’m mighty pissed about Jesus too.

So glad I saved all the Amnesia Eric eps…

    • Adele...not as in Gran says:

I have two requests for season 5…1. Beel is kept away from Sookie. And 2, Alex Skarsgard grows his hair back ala season 2 hair style. I loved that hair, how he had it in Sookie’s first dream. sigh.

      simple pleasures.

  5. Michelle says:

IMHO…no one dug up Russell. He got out himself and then glamoured the worker. Probably after feeding on him. The guy said it was a couple of days ago, which would be around the time of the “walk in the sun” spell or directly afterwards, which would have woken Russell up and given him the strength to escape. He has had a year to heal, he IS the oldest and strongest vampire out there and if Jessica could break through her silver during the spell, as young as she is, Russell easily could have gotten out himself. Pam wouldn’t dig him up, no matter HOW pissed at Eric she is. She knows Russell would go after him first and with his being 2000 years older than Eric, he would be toast.

I have no idea if I can keep watching this show anymore. The whole threesome/break up scene was SO badly handled……..I really have no words for how bad it was. I am also sick of this hero worship of Bill and character ruining of Eric. True Blood was my favorite show and no longer is. That honor now goes to Walking Dead. (As long as that doesn’t get ruined too) I couldn’t care less if I see it next year. If I do turn in, it’ll be OnDemand or online so I can fast forward though most of it to Russell, which is the only reason I want to watch the show next year. He is my favorite villian. But they have ruined Eric so much that I literally do NOT want to watch a show that pisses me off every single week. I know of several people who are dropping the subscription to HBO over it and others who are simply done with the show now.

They have also made Sookie so unlikable…..she is now my least favorite character. You probably won’t be surprised by the amount of hatred thrown out in the last few days on other sites towards this show…even on HBO’s True Blood homepage. 90% of the posts I have seen have been completely negative. Count me amoung the that 90%.

  6. leni says:

WTF I was so pissed!!!REALLY AB!! WIL Eric ever get more lines then queen bill? i hated the final, then only thing i liked was jessica/jason storyline it was cute i have to say..i’m not sure if i’m going to watch season 5.

  7. Shari says:

Sookie’s character is weak. After 1 week in fae land, she’s back and falls madly in love with Eric within the next few days, goes to the extent of v-tripping, and the very next day (or 2) decides that she still loves Bill too and willing to forgive him! ??? All in the span of like 1-2 weeks and she blames it on the blood she’s had. I like her more in the books, she has a stronger character and is more sensible. It took her a longer time to love Eric and even a longer time to forgive Bill. Bill had to do a lot more to redeem himself.

Understand there are only 12 episodes but they way the script was written it doesn’t really make sense. The writers can come up with their own script but they should at least stay true to the essence of the books. Eric is never the scoundrel he is as portrayed in TB, and Bill is not such a saint. And Sookie is just way smarter and careful.

The writers also wasted a lot of screen time on Tommy Mickens – that subplot just sucks. I agree with Jennifer, not sure if I will watch S5 if the main characters continue to be thrown off radar and lose their personality.

  8. specialk says:

I was not too pleased with the finale either. It lacked the pinache from season 1′s finale and some of the plot was predictable. I was pleased to see sookie choosing herself instead of bill, but was anything BUT pleased when she unloaded all that BS on Eric and throwing his bad deeds in his face while she glorified bill’s actions. Although I’ve immensely enjoyed the character developement of Eric, the break up scene was wayyyy too out of character for him. I did not like the direction the writer took in setting that up. But it was quickly made up for when Eric unleased on Nan’s bodyguards and referred to them as ‘gay stormtroopers.’ lmfao.
I’m sure Sookie is going to struggle with murdering debbie, espcially in light of Alcide now officially becoming a potential romantic interest. I’m really hoping that Eric will come to her aid like in the books and in season 3. I’m sure he’ll still be looking out for her even though I’m sure he’ll try to maintain distance for at least the first half of season 5. Whatever romantic conquests Sookie has, I’m only hoping it serves as purpose for her potential reuniting with Eric. As much as Alan Ball is boned up on Bill and is hellbent on fucking with the hearts and minds of E/S shippers everywhere, he did not just put these two characters together this season just for the hell of it. There is a method to his madness; all the symbolism and parallels between eric and sookie this past four seasons, not to mention that deeply metaphorically and symbolically rich ‘shower’ scene…all told for a reason. Eric IS the true blood and I think Sookie knows it deep down. She never shared anything with bill like she did with eric. So I can’t help but be a little optimistic about next season. Sookie tries to view eric in an imperfect light because a reality that she’s still trying to deny is the one in which bill betrayed her. I think that was why she insisted on just dumping all over him and breaking his heart. But it’s okay at least for now….because now we can see the viking get his BAMF face on and tear some shit up. By the looks of the finale, I’m sure he’s gonna have too much on his plate to worry about sookie at first anyway. And you know what? Good on him! Do your thang, you sexy viking, you.
jessica/jason…meh. dont really care. although i did enjoy seeing jessica come of age so to speak this season. her character is evolving nicely too.
jesus/lala….i enjoyed lala like always, but their storyline was drawn out and at times boring and flat. It did improve towards the end of the season. i feel bad for lala now…poor baby.
tara…i seriously doubt she’ll be killed off. i just hope that when and if she is ressurrected, she gets back in touch with her season 1 self.
…..same can be said for pam. Krisin Bauer van Straten, beautiful and flawless this season, but wasn’t a big fan of her lack of presence throughout the season and how she melted down. I could understand, but really??
oh….Alexander Skarsgard…give that man an emmy! outstanding actor by far this season!!

    • Michelle says:

Wow…really??? I mean….really??? You can really just sweep under the rug what was done with that whole scene like it was nothing? You can still have hope that AB will actually do something RIGHT in the end? I think you are over analyzing that shower scene. I really do NOT think AB would be that…..well….”here people…see….I am going to put them together…you just have to get through the other stuff first.”

I think he gave in to doing the whole AE storyline because he KNEW that was what the majority of viewers wanted to see. He knew he couldn’t leave that out…he let Sookie and Eric have 2…count them….2 episodes of romance so we would stick around and then went back to his precious Bill. Watch the ComiCon footage, he REALLY does NOT get it! When the question of will Bill & Sookie reunite happens, the BOOS are deafening, and his face shows that he has absolutely NO UNDERSTANDING of what fans want. He really has no clue.

I seriously have been losing more faith in this show in the last few days….the more and more I think about it and have watched the last episode, the more I see that we will NEVER see what we want…unless we walk away in droves and the ratings take a nose dive. Then HBO will insist on it.

      • Crispycry says:

I’m reading the books at the same time as the HBO serie… And I’m also thinking that AB didnt get a god damn thing about the books… It saddens me. =( Everything is so different between books and TV show

      • specialk says:

just trying to stay optimistic, michelle. I’m REALLY hoping all of this mess gets rectified next season..and in the way it is intended.

did not mean to anger you if I did.

      • Michelle says:

You didn’t anger me..lol I am just surprised you can still have hope after the finale that he will get it.

  9. JoJo says:

    I did like the episode.

Lets start with the subplots first. I don’t like Jessica and Jason. Hoyt is right – there is something missing in Jason. Even after he tells Hoyt about what happened and sees how hurt he is, he does it again in a second. Jessica doesn’t seem to give two cents about Hoyt either. I get that they are trying to develop her character and her vampire nature, but they surely jumped the shark on that one. This relationship pretty much came out of nowhere.

I was sad to see Jesus killed although I expected it. Although with Laffy as a medium I don’t think that is the last we will see of him.

Interesting idea that Russell got himself out. But I don’t think he would glamour the worker – its not his style. Many theories of who dug him up are floating around the net but I think Nan makes the most sense. She would want him as an ally against the AVL. And she would glamour, not kill, someone.

I don’t think Tara is dead nor did she get her head blown off. If you watch the scene the bullet hit the side of her head. Very possible that she will be saved by drinking vampire blood or more interestingly, being turned in order to “save” her. It would be hilarious if Eric’s blood saves her (because he is so much older than Bill) and Tara then desires Eric and Eric goes for it. Take that Sookie!

I think Steve Newlin may not be a vampire but just using fake fangs.

    Now, onto Eric and Sookie.

The breakup scene made me want to vomit in my mouth. At first I thought it was a dream. Eric’s actions were so out of character. I guess this is the writers trying to mesh the two Eric’s together. I do like that Sookie finally admitted that she has always wanted and cared for Eric. And yes, her calling Eric out on his lies but forgiving Bill is ridiculous. The writers further enrage me by stating that Bill is noble and Eric is the bad guy. When can everyone accept that neither is the 100% villain or hero? I often wonder is she is under some sort of spell. What else can explain her stupidity? I can only hope that next season Sookie finds herself facing some rejection for once. I don’t even care to see her and Eric together anymore. And Bill is so much more interesting without her.

Great website Tiffany. Keep posting in the off season to get us by!

    • Valerie Holm says:

I am in complete agreement with you on all counts! I have been telling everyone that it had to be Nan, not Pam, that unearthed Russell to help with her rebellion against the Authority. Pam makes no sense to me as that would be the end of her and Eric (or at least that’s how I see it) and I don’t believe she would risk it. I hope they repair that and I would still like to see her and Sookie become friends although I know its unlikely.

And Tara, how fantastic would it be if Eric saved her and she tries all next season to get up on him. Might make Sookie a little jealous and would make for a great realization on her part.

Bill is DEFINITELY more interesting without her. I found myself liking him this season so I hope they continue developing him in this manner. Let him have his kingdom and just stay away from Sookie.

Thanks everyone for all the great comments!

  10. Dandhara says:

I am disappointing with the end of the season, the writers just confirmed the fact , they don’t know how to handle E/S. What we get is a cheap version of the CH characters, such a shame . True blood used to be my favourite TV show, now it’s start to lost my interest. I watch ep 12 only today and wished I haven’t watched . I feel sad for Eric , and really hope him will have a new love interest next season and make Sookie jealous as hell, she totally deserves. Alex is the only reason I have watch TB at now, not only because him is sexy and wicked , mostly because him is doing a great Job with one of my favourites book characters, regards the poor work of the writers. After said that, I really hope they will have something really walsome for the beginning of season 5 or I will no watch, if I want watch Eric, I only need to loggin in the YouTube .

  11. Crispycry says:

At some point, when she says her monologue to Queen Beel, how she forgets him, I was SCREAMING at my screen for real , I was so mad. I have to say just like Pam ‘ Fuck sookie ‘ D,:

  12. llkltk says:

Season 1 was so smart and well written. It’s interesting to go back and watch those snipits on youtube. I was highly disappointed in the finale. I agree that Sookie has become unlikeable. It’s hard sometimes to believe that this woman even has someone like Eric that is interested in her. I think the writers really wasted AS talent in the finale. I mean, he couldn’t be happy with those scenes. He has become the main star of the show, but the writers do not give him any screen time. The breakup scene was ridiculous. Sookie and Bill don’t make any sense anymore. Moyer has aged so much since season one physically. He’s aged. Sookie makes more sense with Eric. Of course, they are broken up for several books so I do have hope that they will find their way back to each other. I don’t even know why I bother since Eric deserves someone else, like ME!

  13. viggolover1 says:

I ran out of words…I can’t explain anymore how disgusted I am. AB has ruin one of the best books series I have read in a while. CH isn’t the best writer ever but, God knows she is a good character developer. Something that AB and Co are not!!! I don’t know how CH feels about this. I know she can’t say anything if she is not please about it. I don’t care how much money she has made with True Blood but I know that artist and writers consider their creations like children. If I was her I will be so angry, I won’t be able to sleep. Well to tell you the truth I’m not her and I’m so angry I can spit nails. UGH!!! I hope HBO reads all the complains and do something about it…God knows I love Alexander Skarsgard and his portrayal of Eric…but I don’t know if I can watch the show if this continues on season 5. I hope I’m wrong and everything gets corrected. But my hopes are not to high…SM already said in an interview that season 5 is going to upset a lot of people..and that’s the way they like it. UGH!!!

  14. Deftones says:

I think when the viewership ratings go down, then AB will realize he had butchered our favorite couple. All over the world who watches TB are mostly Eric & Sookie Supporters. Guys just enjoy CH books

  15. felicia says:

well I for one don’t wanna watch the show or season 5 if she starts dating Alcide he is boring as hell there is no chemistry with him with sookie it doesn’t make any since and he is a asshole the only reason debbie was trying to kill sookie is because of him, like Pam saying “Fuck Sookie”which is true but I also add “Fuck Alcide”! i wanted him to die sooooo bad in the final i just hope russel get’s to him first, Sookie stupid ass listen to him about listening to your brain and not your heart, bullshit!!! hasn’t this asshole every heard of the phrase “The heart is stronger than the head”!! more the reason why Alcide is a dick, so I’m going to be watching Eric scenes on youtube, and one more thing don’t Allan know Bill got more fans then Alcide” lol i rather see her alone for a season than her with any one else especially Bill or Alcide they both suck!!

  16. Michele says:

I just don’t know what happened with the last 2 episodes. They took one of the best seasons and gave us two of the worst episodes I’ve ever seen. I have so many questions that will never be answered. I did like that they had her walk away from both of them, cause when she does get back with Eric it’s going to be hot as hell. I have faith that it will happen, but they both need to be away from each other now and find their way back to each other, it’s that tension that will keep the show going. I have a feeling they will end the show a year later after the last book is released, cause the cast is going to start aging, like Bill already is.

    • viggolover1 says:

I know…I hope that will happen…I like that she chose herself, she needs to be on her own for a while…clear her heart and head…clean her body from all the Bill blood that is running in her veins. And like you said when she goes back to Eric…Good Lord!!! is going to be epic. I agree too that TB can’t run more that 6 seasons…if we are lucky maybe 7. Poor SM is looking old as hell…check season 1 and you will see. I don’t know is because he is over 40 but…he has age a lot. Probably the vamp make up is not helping either. I don’t know if HBO can afford digital touch up. Because God knows the poor man needs it. Especially when he is next to Alexander. Not good…not good at all.

  17. jsnider says:

The finale was anti-climatic….and disappointing but I’m sure I’ll at least try Season 5 and see if I can stomach it….I know TB is Alan Ball’s fanfiction but I’ve read way better fan fiction from amatueur writers than the 12 episodes they give us….moments of brilliance sandwiched between mediocrity. I do have a theory about TB and AB though….I’m thinking TB has 1-3 seasons left before it’s gone and Books 5-9 are pretty slow and couldn’t carry a whole season–so I think Ball is condensing several books over the next few seasons to conclude with Book 13.

I think Alcide is gonna be the Quinn character and we will have at least one season of Sookie and Eric circling each other, unsure of their relationship. NOW whether we can trust Ball to stay true to the characters that CH created and he’s altered somewhat—I just don’t know but I hope when he says he will stay true to to basic character–he means his conclusion mirrors CH’s (and I’m not too sure her conclusion has Sookie and Eric togther!!).

  18. Leki says:

PRETTY KITTY….fanfiction i`ve just read way better than AB`s it do him n his entire writing staff a world of good…to read this one…OMG…IT CERTAINLY WAS WAY MOR FULFILLING, than the drivel that TB`s disintegrated to…but i luv your recap…well the upside is she didn`t choose beel…all of Sookie`s scene`s with beel made me want to fuckin`gag…ewww yuck…they certainly didnt do Eric n Sookie any favor`s awww…hated the way Sookie kept lookin`at beel all googlie eyed…ERIC DID DESERVE MORE N BETTER…although it was heartwarming to c ginger comfort Pam…but cheah…in the mean time i guess i’ll just have to continue reading fanfiction to get my fix…:D

  19. Christina says:

I fear that once again, Bill will be made the hero by saving Tara with his blood. I am sick and tired of AB taking such liberties with the basic moral make-up of these characters, which are not his creation. He has changed the story lines as he wanted, but he has tried to corrupt the spirit of the characters to fit his need to make Bill the center of that universe. Other tv series have followed their original concepts, such as Game of Thrones, Pillards of the Earth and others, why can’t AB be happy with making up side stories instead of playing TV series god and switching the morality of these characters?

I felt so bad for Eric. He put himself out there and said he loved her before and she crushes him. Says she fell in love with both sides of him and acts like she’s choosing him and then says she’s not. His face, I was so sad

I think the one-liner “fuckin Sookie” sums it up for me, I find myself actualy disliking sookie she sucks and when she was telling boring bill and gorgeous Eric she didn’t want either it was just awful to watch and so painful to hear how she forgave Bill for everything…is this woman insane….or just plain dumb! I really feel eric deserves better and the writing was lame for this being a season finale. There was no excitment (apart from Tara getting her head partly blown off). Will not miss that character hope they dont find a way to bring her back.

The only thing i did like was the thought of russell returning…he was a great character. I thought it might have been debbie who released him as she was back with the dumb wolf for a while and he may have said where he had been buried…or maybe told some vampires where he was. Or maybe naan as she wanted to get ridnof the avl.

I will miss jesus…liked his character pity they had to shaft him!!!

I hated that she didn’t pick Eric but understand that it would be too “simple” to have them just end up together now at this stage…and live happily ever after. I agree she needs some alone time to get them out of her “bloods” system and do think they are setting up Alcide to be the “Quinn”. Her rebound until she comes around to Eric- the one she really loves regardleess of blood bond (my hope). I saw the HBO show first and bought all of the books two weeks ago, I have read them all except book 11 which I just started. And I am glad I did it that way if not I would hate the show because it is nothing like the books. The books are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better. I wish AB would do the series like the book but that’s AB for you. So we get what we get. I just hope in the end, that she ends up with Eric however he gets them there. If he doesn’t and she ends up with Bill I will be forever pissed!

I felt bad for Eric too because he really does seem to Love Sookie alot. It seems he just likes being with her and not so much about sex just the intimacy of the relationship. What are they going to do in season 5…is he going to stay away from her quit thinking about her while she gets involved with Alcide. Its a big mess so it’s a shame should have been a beautiful love story.

First of all, Tiffany – thank you! Great recap and I love your blog.

First, the fact is TB is a SVM fanfiction and not in Eric/Sookie pairing fandom. So, no point going crazy about Sookie not being with Eric (I don’t even doubt for a second AB will have Sookie and Bill united at the end of the series – that is if HBO doesn’t pull plug completely).

Second, TB has become so far off the canon, there is no point comparing the two – it only causes a lot of unhealthy anger. Instead of analyzing Sookie from the books’ POV, I compared her to another TV series’ female lead character Brenda the Closer at TNT, on my website. Believe me, there are a lot of commonalities between the two, and not in TB Sookie favor.

TB is different from SVM, I get it. It would be boring to watch exactly what we read, but… Different is not always better. AB could easily capitalize on Eric – the main attraction in the series. Why he chose to disregard the obvious path to a greater success of the show is beyond me. Perhaps, he is personally intimidated by strong men? Gorgeous men? Complex or insecurities of some sort? Frankly, I don’t care. And I don’t care about Eric reduced to a puppy without dignity, self-esteem and pride. I’m afraid I will never be able to look at TB Eric with respect again, and that just may be the last straw for me. And then they had him groveling for Sookie’s love and trying to win her by telling her Bill screwed up. After the initial shock, the whole scene made me LMAO! Come on! TB Eric is many things, but is he really that stupid?

This season’s characters were OOC even for TB. At least Tara is dead, but she is coming back next season. Attention, Pam! Zombie on it’s way!

I don’t know if there will be Season 5 for me. It’s confirmed Sookie will not pick Eric or Bill during the next 12 episodes, so brace yourselves for another (?) character getting more spotlight. Good luck to us all.

    Thanks,
    AlphaEN

Great thoughts. I too wonder why AB doesn’t capitalize on the popularity of Eric’s character. Is he really that blind or does he CHOOSE not to see for the reasons you mentioned. I don’t know.

I’m soooooooo over Alan Ball’s bull sh*t.. no more true blood for me!! I can see where everything’s going from here & on .. *stupid sookie reuniting with bill* or at least the reconstruction of their toxic-abusive, Lame and unhealthy relationship .. I will not sit here and get all angry while he Destroys the best fiction couple EVER (E/S).. hope there are people out there that feels the same way.. let’s unite and make HBO get rid of alan ball’s crappy fanfic by lowering his bigger audience, Us!!

  26. Brooke says:

I’m not going to compare the books and the show, they are two completely different series almost, the books are more like inspiration. I feel like Sookie was saying goodbye to Bill as she forgave him and that was her moving on. I think Eric and Sookie will get back together towards the end of season five, I would like to see Sookie with ‘real’ Eric because that relationshiop wasn’t explored. I hope Sookie does not have a relationship with Alcide (even though I like his character). If they do have a relationship, I can’t help but view Sookie as a bit promiscuous.

    • ericsw45 says:

I agree with you Brooke….I think Eric and Sookie will get together at the end of season 5. I also believe that they will have her have a fling with Alcide that will not last in particular because she killed his ex Debbie Pelt. Alcide to me is really just a friend to Sookie to me they do not have that chemistry for lovers but they want to use him as a Quinn type character next season. I think after all the life and death stuff that will occur because of Russell Eddington revenge Sookie will then realize that she is in love with Eric and will want a relationship with him. Bill has moved on from sookie to me if you watch the last episode you can see he believes she is in love with Eric and I think he will be involved with that female vampire they are introducing next season.

      • Brooke says:

I think Russell will go after Sookie because Eric loves Sookie and that’s his revenge. I would love to see Sookie chase Eric, I’ve never seen Sookie ‘chase’ any of her lovers.

      • ericsw45 says:

Yes, I think the would be interesting and refreshing it Sookie had to chase after one of her admirers for once! Eric does love her but I think like AS said in an interview that he will go back to being guarded about being with her because he doesn’t want to be hurt again.

  27. Liluhead says:

They say Alex will only be two more seasons and Allan ball is also saying that, so I’m praying on my knees, that the last two seasons work up to end the series with our favorite couple together !! Please somebody has to listen!!!
