Woot! True Blood, season 3, episode 11, “Fresh Blood”… mark this one down. FINALLY Eric gets to be the hero. I LOVED this episode sooooo much and that is saying a lot, after the fuckery from last week. But at least we can stick it to all the Beel fangirls who called our Viking some horrible names after the basement imprisonment seen. The man had a plan bitches! AND unlike Beel’s poor attempts to save Sookie this season, Eric’s plan was smart and it worked.
The episode began with Bill coming to Fangtasia to save Sookie, who he knows is there. Pam is standing guard and he threatens to kill her like the Southern gentleman he is not, and a fight ensues with several lovely scenes where Bill is sprayed in the eyes with silver. LOL. Then in some truly bizarre writing, or perhaps a plan to let them escape, Yvetta frees Sookie and then takes a silver chain to a distracted Pam. This whole scene bothered me. Why would Yvetta help Sookie and why would she and Pam be on such bad terms all the sudden? And why was Pam down in the basement with Sookie when Bill arrived? Does Sookie know of the plan? If she does, then she deserves props for her acting.
Eric is busy finding Russell at a museum where he is grieving Talbot. Russell asks Eric “Why” and then sneers at Eric’s desire to get vengeance for his slain human family. Eric insists that they are even now but no KRE is going to kill Eric. That is when the Viking dangles a carrot in front of Russell.. the ultimate vampire dream… daywalking. Eric convinces Russell to come with him and learn the secret to walking in the sun. This is where Eric’s plan begins but a snag (planned or not, I am not sure) changes things. Sookie and Bill have escaped and are driving back to Bon Temps.
While driving Sookie admits that she does have some feelings for Eric but of course always follows that up with her proclamations of love for Bill… gag. Eric and Russell quickly find them and take them back to Fangtasia, in Sookie’s crappy yellow car too, which was hilarious.
On the way into the bar Eric whispers to Bill “Hit me”. And Bill, who actually does show some common sense sometimes, obliges. Either that or he couldn’t pass up an opportunity to hit Eric without getting his behind handed to him. I think it was a combo. Eric and Bill brawl while KRE escorts Sookie into the bar. Sookie seems completely and bizarrely unconcerned about Eric and Bill fighting. Once alone, Eric tells Bill he has a plan and Bill is all for it if it means Sookie will be saved.
When they all convene inside Eric tells KRE about Sookie’s fae heritage and that she may be the last of her kind and his only chance to walk in the sun. Sookie scoffs and responds that she is NOT vampire sunscreen but Bill (who is tied to a chair) intervenes and tells her that indeed she is, he never told her. KRE become suspicious when Bill seems willing to share this damning secret but Bill actually plays this well and tells Sookie that the value of her blood may keep her alive, which KRE swallows hook, line, and sinker. KRE agrees to take Sookie’s blood for a test drive IF Eric goes first. Eric agrees.
Before the test drive though we are treated to another sweet and tender seen between Pam and Eric. She is crying about this dangerous game he is playing and Eric comforts her and kisses her on the forehead, telling her jokingly that he loves her much more when she is cold and heartless. This may be the best scene in the whole episode.
By this time I am getting suspicious that Eric is not planning to get out of this alive. I am thinking this is a plan to ensure Pam and Sookie’s safety by sacrificing his own. He walks up to Sookie with the intention of biting her but we can clearly see from his facial expressions that he is hesitating and does not want to bite her against her will.
Bill gives them a last warning that draining Sookie will result in a world with no fairies. Sookie berates Bill for his role in this scheme which confirms that Sookie is just plain dumb sometimes. She always believes the worst about people without ever considering their motives. KRE loses patience and grabs Sookie roughly and bites her arm. Eric follows suit and bites her neck. Sookie screams as Bill looks on.
After their snack Eric walks outside and as predicted he does not start to burn right away, giving him time to walk around like he is heaven and wave to the parking lot camera for KRE to come outside so they can frolic in the sun together. Then he turns away from the camera and tries to concentrate on not letting the vamps inside see that he is burning.
KRE is crying in joy as he watches Eric. Pam is crying with a broken heart but she encourages KRE to go outside and walk in the sun ignoring Bill’s pleas to be freed so he can heal Sookie.
He goes outside and saunters up to Eric. Eric turns to face him with his face badly burned and smoke emitting from his body. KRE is about to run when Eric grabs his arm and handcuffs the two of them together with silver cuffs. KRE screams that Eric is a madman and Eric tells him to be brave, they will die together. Hence we finally see that Eric is sacrificing himself to avenge his human family, kill Russell, and save Sookie and Pam. Eric Northman finally gets his moment in the sun.. literally. He is our hero.
So what will happen in the finale????? Well, from the preview we see Sookie running from Fangtasia. Does she come to and try to save Eric? We also see Sophie Anne lookingly gleeful about fairies, and Bill fighting someone as well as telling someone that Eric and Russell are dead. Does QSA present herself as the true mastermind and does Bill have to save the day? Yuck. Godric and Alcide are also in the finale. Can’t wait!! 2 weeks!!

this was a very touching and well deserved episode for Eric, I wonder if Bill realized Eric’s true feelings for Sookie. I beleive i may have to go home and watch this one again. Sigh Our Eric has been redeemed I can’t wait for the finale!!!
why do we have to wait for TWO weeks?
that sucks.
btw, admin, i thought you might want some perspective, so i found this blog: http://talktrueblood.wordpress.com/
i think you would meaby like their theories about bill, and their prooves and so on.
Hey HHN! I am really glad you enjoy my blog!
I LOVED Eric being portrayed as a hero!
Your recap e&s.com was wonderful!
Oh MAN! They better not kill him off! Eric too important to the story and my FAVORITE! I love the way they are developing Eric’s character. Agreed. The scene with him and Pam was the best! He is so much better for Sookie in so many ways- They balance each other.
YESSS!! Finally our Viking gets the respect he deserves!
I was very pleased with the episode. I think Denis O’Hare is brilliant and the scenes with Eric and Pam were so genuine and touching. I love, love, LOVE the cheek caress Eric gives Sookie. And did anyone else out there notice that when eric was drinking from sookie, he’s hand was lightly stroking her head, as if calming and reassuring her that she was going to be alright??
oh….i want a Viking of my own…yes, I most certainly do.
lol
I hope the finale delivers because if we have to go the next 9 months Viking-less,it better blow my socks off!
*Swoon*
I am so watching that scene over and over again now, lol.
I was cheering when Pam was spraying Bill with Colloidal Silver. Cheering and laughing. Oh, there was some clapping, too. Basically, I did everything short of jump up and down….which I was tempted to do.
I am going to post several theories of mine for the season finale:
1. There is no way Sookie can save Eric. She is dying. How could she possibly recover fast enough to save Eric? Just don’t see it happening. Also, if you look at the trailer closely I think Sookie is running outside with the silver around her neck in the evening. I did not really see the sun as much. I predict that Sookie will be saved by Bill’s blood, but will then tell Pam and Bill to basically screw themselves. She will renounce vampires, grab the silver, and sprint out the door.
2. Bill fight’s with Alcide over Sookie.
3. I think its possible that we won’t find out if Eric lived till next season. But it would be a ridiculous cliffhanger because it has already been done (Lafayette). Not to mention there is no way Alan Ball would be able to keep whether Eric lived or not a secret from the press. Just not possible.
4. I think that was the final scene between Sookie and Eric we will see this season.
I don’t think this weeks episode was the last we will see of Eric this season. Clearly they show Eric in the season finale (you could see he has some vision of Godric or something). But I am not expecting a reunion or anything between Sookie and Eric. Which kills me!
Sookie runs out of Fangtasia in daylight. There is a patch of sun on the pavement surrounded by shadows. Also, the silver chain is not around Sookie’s neck, she has it grasped in both hands and pulled across her midsection. Pausing the promo vid at 30 seconds shows all of this pretty clearly.
Sookie probably WILL swear off vampires, but won’t do so until she banishes Bill from her home, after finding out about his dirty little secret (which I think the queen might clue her in on).
We’ll know Eric’s all right by the end of the eppy.
If Sookie isn’t the one to save Eric, who does? Pam can’t, even if Bill gets free of the chains, I doubt he’d bother risking his own neck to save Eric’s, and it doesn’t look as if Eric is going to be in any condition to save himself. Especially since he pretty much resigned himself to the fact that he HAD to die to take out Russell and protect Sookie.
I’m not saying your predictions don’t have any validity since I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen, but your predictions certainly don’t mesh with what we DO know and have seen.
I’m not sure if it’s a legitimate source but I read spoilers from someone who was on set during some of the finale scenes. It sounds plausible and correlates with the pictures/promo we’ve seen.****SPOILER***** This person stated that Sookie will run out of Fangtasia, use her Fae powers against Russell and subdue him with the silver chains we saw in the promo. That goes with what Denis O’Hare said about Sookie being “mean” to Russell.
In the scene Sookie has blood on her wrist, I’m assuming it’s because she gave her blood to heal Eric or enough for him to seek cover in Fangtasia. I LOVE the idea of Sookie saving Eric, not only because it proves she has feelings for him but for once she is the one doing the saving.Sookie has to be healed by either Pam or Bill and I really hope Pam gives Sookie her blood. I mean Bill has given her WAY too much blood already. Kristin Bauer recently said that in the finale Pam will do “Anything to save Eric”, that worries me a little. I’m afraid Pam might heal Sookie then threaten to kill Bill if she doesn’t help Eric, since he’s tied up. I would hate that but you never know with AB. Please let Sookie save Eric without being blackmailed into it! I think the finale has great potential for Eric and Sookie fans but we’ll have to see how it unfolds.
That would be awesome if those spoilers are true! I hope you are right. But, again I just think its extremely unlikely. Could Sookie even drink even blood quickly enough for that to happen? Moreover, could Sookie heal that quickly?
I did read in the Rolling Stone article some spoilers. The author did not specify what episode he is talking about, but I think it is the season finale.
SPOILER ALERT:
The author wrote “On a recent day on set Eric is drenched in blood, along with his raspy-voiced lesbian sidekick, whom he turned into a vampire a century ago. Another vamp sits in a corner, tied up with silver chains, his face burned off. One more has been reduced to liquid, and poured into a gigantic glass goblet, which rests on the bar. Even Paquin has a little bit of blood on her wrist. Paquin tells a few vampires to “go back in the hole you came from, you creepy cold freaks!”
That scene sounds like it is from the season finale. Which if I am correct these spoilers definitely support my theory that Sookie renounces all vampires.
In the preview it looks like Sookie goes to the Fae world or close to death, maybe Claudine helps her heal? That or AB plans on being inconsistent, Bill or Pam’s blood heals her quickly. We know Eric survives but if Sookie doesn’t save him. Then who? Pam could drink Sookie’s blood and run out to grab Eric but he and Russell are bound by silver. What could she or Bill do? Sookie can go outside unharmed by the sun, and somehow use her powers to separate the two vamps. Then proceed to chain Russell up with silver. That would tie into the scene described from Rolling Stone. They bring Russell (who has a burned face) inside and tie him up. Pam is bloody because she tries to go out and help Eric.
Then Alcide comes in, they want to use a site from his fathers company and bury Russell deep in cement. When they try to involve Sookie in the plan or fight over her she gets sick of it all and renounces vampires. Ugh why is the season finale 2 weeks away! Speculating drives me nuts sometimes LOL.
That sounds like a pretty plausible finale! And you may be right because I found this second promo for True Blood online. Your probably have seen it, but I just saw it and it looks like you are absolutely correct. Its the last few seconds of the promo where you see scenes from the finale.
SPOILER ALERT:
http://www.spoilertv.com/2010/08/true-blood-episode-312-evil-is-going-on_31.html
Sookie definitely disinvites Bill from her house–you can see him flying through her front door. Oh snap!
I hadn’t seen that new promo yet!! Thanks for posting it
I’m happy to be right, usually AB let’s me down. I’m really excited now for the finale! Love that Sookie finally kicks Bill to the curb, at least for a while.
